Wylam Bridge
Wylam Bridge
The bridge was constructed in 1836 using 9 forty foot steel beams on stone piers. It was originally for both road and waggonway traffic and had a timber deck, replaced by steel in 1897. The toll house built in 1899 is visible on the north side. It was freed from toll in 1936 and has been strengthened several times. In 2007, after a tragic accident, the upper railings were reinforced by the crash barriers seen on the left side.
