Icknield Port Loop, Birmingham
Birmingham Canal Navigations.
The Icknield Port Loop acts as a feeder from the Rotton Park Reservoir and is part of the original route cut by James Brindley in 1769, much straightened and shortened by Thomas Telford more than 50 years later. This loop is still dominated by old and dilapidated factory premises, and has had none of the modern redevelopment of the Oozells Loop. This may well come in due course. There is no continuous tow path here; only boaters can view the whole route.
The bridge ahead carries the towpath of Telford's main line canal. Straight ahead is the Soho (Winson Green) Loop.
