Welsh Highland Railway, Pont Croesor station
Pont Croesor has been the southern terminus of the modern WHR for most of the 2010 season. The line has been extended and reopened southwards from Caernarfon SH4862 : The Welsh Highland Railway Station at Caernarfon since 1997. The final 3.5km to link with the Ffestiniog Railway at Porthmadog SH5738 : Rheilffyrdd wedi'u hailgysylltu - Railways reconnected is complete but has yet to open.
The original WHR was completed in 1923, between Dinas Junction SH4758 : Dinas Station and Porthmadog, by extending and linking older slate railways at both ends of the line. However, the Welsh slate industry was in decline and road transport was taking over, so the line only survived until 1937.
