NO7048 : Caterpillar

taken 14 years ago, near to Ethie Mains, Angus, Scotland

Caterpillar
Caterpillar
It seems a bit late in the year for caterpillars, but perhaps this is a species which overwinters as a chrysalis. It may be an Elephant Hawkmoth (Deilephila elpenor) or possibly Small Elephant Hawkmoth (Deilephila porcellus). Thanks to Lairich Rig for help with identification.
