Steam tug Daniel Adamson - inside the Scotch boiler
This is a very unusual view (I've waited over 30 years to take this picture) of the inside of the Scotch boiler seen here
SJ3392 : Steam tug Daniel Adamson - Scotch boiler. The majority of the small fire tubes are out, allowing this view through the front tubeplate. Each small hole (including the one I'm shooting through) should contain a fire tube as represented by the three that are left in situ. At the bottom you can see the three corrugated furnace tubes that would have the grates inside them. At the rear are the combustion chambers that are stayed together and to the shell (not visible). The tubes carry the gases forward from the combustion chambers to the funnel uptake. The tubes are mechanically expanded into the tubeplates.
