Bradfield St George’s church
Bradfield St George’s church
Closely surrounded by trees which create a damp atmosphere, this 600-year-old church is decaying. Over the porch is a sundial which never sees the sun. The west buttresses of the pinnacled and embattled tower have large inscriptions on them relating to their construction and to John Bacon as benefactor. The roof is 16th c. with carved arch-braces and cambered tie-beams, the spandrels contain tracery decoration. There is a Norman slit window in the south nave wall.
