SM9736 : Weeping polypore (Inonotus dryadeus)
taken 10 years ago, near to Llanychaer, Pembrokeshire/Sir Benfro, Great Britain

Weeping polypore (Inonotus dryadeus)
Recognisable by its velvety texture and the droplets that ooze from it like tears. It is parasitic on broadleafed trees, chiefly oak, and considered a serious threat. The presence of the fruiting body indicates that the mycelium has entered the body of the tree which will thus be weakened.
