Locomotives off Cup Final Specials at Willesden Depot
View NE in Yard of Willesden Locomotive Depot of two LMS 'Jubilee' 6P 4-6-0s, Nos. 5699 'Galatea' and 5667 'Jellicoe' before they worked return Football Specials on 27 April 1946 on the occasion of the first Cup Final after World War Two. On the smokebox of 5699 is chalked: 'Up the Rams: Derby - 3, Charlton - 1'. (Actually, Derby County won 4 - 1 and I don't think the Match was over when I took the photograph!). No 5699 is well-known as a preserved 'Jubilee', built 4/36 and withdrawn 11/64, rescued from Barry Scrapyard in 1980, rebuilt in 2013 and subsequently run on many main line Tour Specials. No. 5667, also built in 1936 did not survive its withdrawal in 1/65.
