The Customs House, Newcastle Quayside
The Customs House moved from the west end of Quayside in 1766 after the Town Wall running along the riverside had been demolished. The brick building was given a new facade of stone in 1833 by Sidney Smirk (son-in-law of John Dobson). There is a Hanoverian Coat of Arms above the doorway NZ2563 : Hanoverian Royal Coat of Arms, Custom House, Quayside. The building is now a barristers' chambers.
