Sighthill Cemetery
The book "Villages of Glasgow – North of the Clyde" (Aileen Smart, 2002), devotes a section to Sighthill Cemetery; the introduction to that section notes that it was laid out in 1840 on twelve acres of land, later extended to forty-six acres, that it "occupies a sloping position and rises to a height of nearly 300 feet above sea level", and that it "affords fine views from Tinto to the hills of Perthshire".

This photograph was taken from what is more or less the centre of the cemetery. The tower of the NS5868 : Abandoned Ruchill Hospital is clearly visible on the left. The Kilpatrick Hills provide the more distant backdrop. The highest point of the Kilpatrick Hills is Duncolm (NS4777). Duncolm can be seen in the right-hand side of the photograph: it appears on the skyline, directly above the left-hand side of the tree with the strong autumn colours.

The cemetery was laid out in 1840, under the guidance of Mr Stewart Murray, on twelve acres of land; it has been extended since then. Originally, plots were sold by the Sighthill Cemetery Company Limited, who owned the land and the cemetery; however, that company went into liquidation in July 1954, and the cemetery subsequently came under the control of Glasgow Corporation (forerunner of Glasgow City Council).
