Down mineral empties train at Metal Bridge, approaching Tursdale Junction
View southward, towards Ferryhill, Darlington etc.; ex-North Eastern York - Darlington - Newcastle section of the East Coast Main Line. Ferryhill was the junction with the ECML of five lines and in the Ferryhill Area there were many collieries (see tips of Thrinsford Colliery on the left), so the destination of this train of empties, typical of the time with NE area high-sided wagons might have been one of any number. It is hauled by No. 90045, one of numerous ex-War Department 2-8-0s employed in the Area at the time. The line was four-track at this point and the train is probably on the main line to Durham.
