On the far side of the road at the south-west corner of the garden of the Old Rectory NZ1381 : South aspect of Old Rectory, Whalton there is a stone pier with an iron pivot on the top. Here there used to be a swing footbridge for the personal use of the vicar. It provided quick and easy access to the church across the deeply sunk narrow lane.
