Work to widen to 4 lanes a 14 mile stretch of the M1 between junctions 25 and 28 was begun in October 2007 and completed in 2010. The view here shows, on the left, the northbound slip road for junction 26 now beginning several hundred yards further before the junction than it used to. Many bridges had to be widened, with restrictions placed on side roads as well as on the motorway itself. Speed on the motorway was limited to 50mph for the duration of the work.
