SK5043 : Clever stile

taken 14 years ago, near to Nuthall, Nottinghamshire, England

Clever stile
Clever stile
The central metal bars of this stile pivoted at the bottom. Pushing them apart at the top enabled one to step through, after which the bars returned automatically to the closed position. Not suitable for wheelchairs, but then neither was the footpath on this day, since a few yards further on, it was several inches deep in mud and cow slurry!
