Derelict farmhouse above Mickleton
The countryside is littered with abandoned farmhouses, as farming needs so much less labour than in former years. With fewer workers to house, but better access needed for the machinery which replaced them, buildings such as this one accessible only via a narrow winding road became redundant and have been left to decay. Most of the stone structure seems intact, though the walls are starting to lean slightly outwards, and everything timber has rotted away. It's unusual to see undamaged chimneys this late in the process, and grazing animals have at least stopped the site being invaded by trees which are invariably destructive.
