Green Lane Bridge
Green Lane Bridge
One of the split bridges, characteristic of the Stratford upon Avon Canal, carrying the Monarch's Way footpath. The bridges were built this way to allow the towlines of the original horse drawn narrowboats to be passed through the bridge hole without unhitching. This was a "cost cutting" measure as it meant the bridges did not have to be wide enough to span the towpath as well as the canal itself!
