Hove Lagoon
Hove Lagoon
This is the smaller of the two lagoons which has occasionally been used for model boating in the past but has largely been left empty in recent years. It was once part of the River Adur whose mouth had extended eastwards to Hove by the 18th century before a permanent new cut was made near Shoreham in 1816. Part of the former course is now Shoreham Harbour whilst this area was little more than a tidal pond until it was redeveloped and opened in 1930 as a public park. The Beach Huts are on Western Esplanade which was completed in the 1930s as a sea defence.
