The Co-op building can be seen to the right NZ2464 : Co-operative Department Store, Newgate Street
Low Friar Lane opens on the left under the bridge, for pedestrian access.
The Gate is a leisure and entertainment centre with a range of restaurants and cafés, pubs, bars, clubs, a casino and the 12 screen, Empire Cinema. It was opened in November 2002, and replaced the seven storey Newgate House, home to the famous Mayfair club, which played host to many well known bands during its 35 year life Link
