Built over a long period between 1900 and 1919, the name of the architect is not recorded. There are now two planning permissions for conversion of the listed building to a hotel:
“Z/2009/1061/LB . . . . . Former Harland and Wolff Headquarters Building, Queen's Road, Queen's Island, Belfast, BT3 9DU 6 Refurbishment, part-restoration, change of use and extension of Listed Former Harland and Wolff Headquarters building for use as 111-bedroom boutique hotel, spa facilities, swimming pool, gymnasium and other ancillary uses together with associated access and undertaking of site works”
and
“Z/2009/1091/F . . . . Former Harland & Wolff Drawing Headquarters Building, Queen's Road, Queen's Island, Belfast, BT3 9DU Refurbishment, part-restoration change of use and extension of listed former Harland & Wolff Headquarters building foruse a 111-bedroom boutique hotel, spa facilities, swimming pool, gymnasium and other ancillary uses together with associated access and site works (amended description)”. The new buildings cover a range of uses including apartments, offices, hotel, a college, the Public Record Office for Northern Ireland and the “Titanic Belfast”.
