The smaller bricks used for building the lower part of the mill > Link indicate that this is one of the older mills in the area. The date '1814' has been found carved into the interior brickwork but it is believed that this may have been the year when the mill was heightened by about 2.50 metres, using modern bricks. The mill has four storeys and is 12.50 metres high including the boat-shaped cap. It has two opposite doors and a window at each storey except for the top one. It appears that the mill has been lived in during its working life. The ceiling of the first floor is said to have been plastered and there are small cavities in the wall low down which suggests built-in bunks or settees as well as a bricked-up fireplace on the ground floor. The pit wheel and wheel shaft have gone, as has the scoop wheel. The mill was converted as a weekend retreat in 1958 but appears to no longer be used as such.
