Weston Silica
Weston Silica
This functional piece of public sculpture houses a kiosk and has a continuously changing light display at night. The construction was designed by Wolfgang Buttress and Fiona Heron, and finally installed by spring 2007 at a cost of 280,000. The base is 4m, tapering up to a slender tip 30m above the ground, and is described thus: 'Seen from a distance, Silica resembles a gigantic drop of shimmering liquid that is about to hit the pavement.'
