A pioneering route, Sgurr nan Gillean
In 1836 a young geology professor, James D Forbes, and a local guide Duncan Macintyre climbed this ridge to the fine summit of Sgurr nan Gillean. In later years Forbes became an experienced Alpinist and distinguished in his studies of glaciers, including geology of the Cuillin Hills.

Nowadays this is the 'Tourist Route', but even so is a fine ascent, especially in weather as shown here, which can be experienced with luck on Skye.
