Garshake Water Works: northern building
This is one of the northernmost buildings of NS4176 : Garshake Water Works (it can be seen in the distance in that view). Although the building is now derelict, it was one of the more recent additions to the site, dating to after 1990. By way of contrast, the site's water storage tanks date from the late nineteenth century, although the conspicuous domes that now cover them are later additions: NS4176 : Water storage tank.
Garshake Water Works
An Act of 1857 empowered Dumbarton Town Council to abstract water from the Overtoun Burn and to construct reservoirs at Garshake and the Black Linn. Further works, associated with the abstraction of water from Loch Lomond, were completed in 1960. A filter station, built on the Garshake site, was inaugurated in 1964.
