SP2972 : Kenilworth Cyclocross at the Quarry, 2010
taken 14 years ago, near to Kenilworth, Warwickshire, England

The cyclocross race held on Kenilworth Common every Boxing Day is the 'oldest established cyclo-cross event in Britain' and offers 'a tricky technical course of steep climbs and fast descents' (Leamington Courier 30 December 2008). It is organised by Coventry Road Club and the 2010 race was the 57th yearly event.
There are separate races for under 10s, under 12s and the main race which starts at 12 midday and lasts for an hour plus one lap. This is the only time of the year when cyclists are allowed on the parts of the Common away from the main signed paths. The circuit loops around the Common with the start/finish point being on the 'plateau' or open space in the centre of the Lower Common.
The 2010 race was perhaps more hazardous than normal because of lying snow and ice on the ground -see Link for more details.
