Medical history tour in Upper Wimpole Street
Medical history tour in Upper Wimpole Street
An interesting talk outside Number 2 where, in 1891, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle rented a first-floor room in which to practise as an ophthalmologist. Since "not a patient crossed the threshold" he turned to writing as a career instead, and so Sherlock Holmes was born. Doyle, who trained in Edinburgh, learnt about the deductive process, used by the fictional detective, from his teacher and mentor there, professor of clinical surgery Joseph Bell.
