The lock constructed between Central Bay and Ontario Basin when the Manchester Docks were redeveloped as "Salford Quays" (LinkExternal link 1940s map of the area).

The lift bridge allows pedestrians to cross the basin from north to south. The large building behind the lock is SJ8097 : Holiday Inn Express, Salford Quays.
