NY9834 : The valley of Harnisha Burn

taken 13 years ago, 3 km from Hill End, County Durham, England

The valley of Harnisha Burn
The valley of Harnisha Burn
Harnisha Burn cuts down from Raven Seat to join Bollihope Burn. An old aqueduct cuts across the slopes in the immediate foreground, carrying some of Harnisha's water to a reservoir above Juniper Banks to the northeast. Down in the valley bottom, the map shows broad-leaved woodland, but the low trees are not visible without descending close to the stream. The B6278 can be seen climbing over Catterick Moss on its way to Stanhope, passing a large square enclosure (shown up clearly by the snow drifts remaining after the recent thaw) marked on the large-scale map as "Peg's House" in NY9835.
