Box Hill viewpoint
The viewpoint on Box Hill, with the Salomons' Memorial in the foreground - see TQ1751 : Plaque, Salomons' Memorial, Box Hill for close up of the plaque and background to the memorial.

The line of trees running across from the middle of the left of the photo marks the route of the Redhill to Guildford Railway. Another line of trees parallel to the left edge of the photo is the Dorking to Horsham railway.

The built up area on the right of the photo is the eastern edge of Dorking, with the suburb of Pixham immediately above and to the right of the memorial. The building above and to the left of the memorial is the Watermill (see TQ1750 : The Watermill).

In the background on the right is Leith Hill and in the very far distance, some 25 miles away, can be seen Chanctonbury Ring on the South Downs.
