Mousehole Christmas lights
Mousehole Christmas lights
The lights in Mousehole are a big attraction locally since they were first erected in 1963. Each year erection of the lights commences in September and the dismantling is not complete until the end of February. The largest installation is 'Merry Christmas/Happy New Year', seen at top right in the photo, which is 160' long x 20' high. The annual running cost is about 14000, funded by street collections whilst the lights are displayed. On 19th December 1981 the Penlee lifeboat 'Solomon Brown' was lost with all hands, together with the crew of the 'Union Star' which the lifeboat was attending and since then the lights are turned off in their memory every December 19th.
