The Clootie Well
The Clootie Well
Peter Irvine in his book "Scotland the Best" calls the Clootie Well a spooky, spooky place. "What you see are hundreds of rags (actually pieces of clothing) hanging on branches of trees around the spout of an ancient well". There is also advice that asks you not to leave polyester garments because the spirits of the well don't know how to deal with these modern fibres. Nonetheless indestructible polythene was quite evident.
