Haytor Granite Tramway
Looking Southwest on the Haytor Granite Tramway, a unique tramway built entirely from granite (rather than iron on wooden sleepers).
It was built around 1820 to convey the quarry's product over eight miles to the Stover canal.
Gravity and sturdy brakes carried the stone laden carts down off the moor, with teams of horses pulling the 'train' back up to the quarry.
