Footpath under the former railway line
Footpath under the former railway line
The bridge used to carry the Didcot, Newbury, Southampton railway, the Great Western link the south coast. This was close to passengers in 1960 and to freight in 1966, although it would be a wonderful route for Southampton to the Midlands freight traffic now. The path runs to the west of St Catherine's Hill, close to the remains of the old Winchester by pass, now itself by passed by the M3.
