A southerly facing photograph of Main Street taken at a time when vehicles could still be driven through the village centre.

On the left is the Red Lion Inn, a traditional 15th century Lakeland Inn and the oldest public house in Hawkshead.

The side wall on the right, with the Barclays Bank signage, still sports evidence of the original name for this bank, Martins Bank Limited, which was taken over by Barclays in 1969 ( wapedia : LinkExternal link ).
