The G.I. Bride statue, from 'Lobey Dosser'
The G.I. Bride statue, from 'Lobey Dosser'
This marvellous statue is of the G.I. Bride, a character who appeared from time to time in Bud Neill's brilliant and surreal 'Lobey Dosser' cartoon strip. Having married a G.I. and followed him to make their home in the bizarre township of Calton Creek in the Arizona desert, she found her new life there was sadly dashed with disappointment. And so she was depicted looking suitably forlorn, with her baby son Ned under her arm, constantly trying to thumb a lift back to Glasgow, often with the one-word plea "Pertick ?".
The statue was erected on 31 January 2011 and is located in the foyer area at Partick railway and underground station.
