St Paul's Church in Jarrow
St Paul's was built in AD685, using stones from abandoned Roman buildings. It was part of a larger Anglo-Saxon monastery until the Dissolution. It was also home of the Venerable Bede AD673-735, the first English historian, whose works included 'The Ecclesiastical History of the English People'.
