The Mater Hospital, Belfast

Properly the “Mater Infirmorum Hospital” but commonly known as “The Mater” the building, facing the Crumlin Road, was built between 1895 and 1900 to a design by William J Fennel. Opened originally by the Sisters of Mercy, it entered the National Health Service in 1972. There is a more recent extension at the Carlisle Circus end.
