Geograph - photograph every grid square

The trig point on Scafell Pike lies just lower than the summit, to its west, and is seen here from just south of the summit "shelter" - one of a number of rings of large rocks dotted about the top of this, England's highest mountain. The day this shot was taken was hardly a day for a summit bivouac, though it was calm and sunny. Midweek in December is typically a good time to get the more popular summits to oneself, but there was one other person on the top who had been equally unable to resist taking a day off work for a walk in such wonderful conditions.

Memory serves to identify the date of this photo as 23rd December in a year in which that date fell near the middle of the week (ie. not next to a weekend or holiday), which strongly suggests 1982, but it might have been 1980. More research required. A bit of deduction (in 2015) tells me that this walk was done in borrowed crampons, in the winter immediately prior to my first mountaineering in the alps. Definite diary evidence says that was July 1983, ergo, this was 1982.
