During the Republic of Ireland's recent boom years, a lot of speculative building went on. This terrace of houses and shops, part of which is seen here, is one example. In September 2010, when this photograph was taken, at least half the shops in this development were vacant. One of those occupied is a bookmaker. Further along on the left is the Brandywell bar and restaurant.
