See NY9366 : The Queens Arms, Main Street (3) and NY9366 : Sign for The Queens Arms, Main Street. The Hexham Courant LinkExternal link says that people in Acomb are up in arms about this new sign. Some people think that the sign amounts to treason, especially as the chairman of the parish council, Major Charles Enderby, is a former member of the Queen’s ceremonial bodyguard. The pub's owner insists that the caricature was actually not based on the Queen, but on his late mother, who resembled the Queen. He said “My mum’s name was Betty, and her husband was called Phil, which explains the tattoo {see NY9366 : New sign for The Queen's Arms, Main Street (detail)}. I have no idea whether the Queen has a tattoo, because I have never seen her arms. I would not do anything to cause offence to the Queen, because I am a royalist myself.”
