Terminal platform at Putney Bridge station
The station is on the District Line. From opening in 1880, for the first nine years this was the terminus of the District Line until the construction of Fulham railway bridge allowed its trains to use South Western Railway tracks to Wimbledon. The unusual buffers shown here (seen also in TQ2475 : Hydraulic buffers and war-time pill box at Putney Underground Station in Fulham ) may date from that time.
There is in this graveyard the tombstone of Joseph and Isabella Murr. The upper half eulogises Isabella at some length; the lower half , left presumably for the virtues of Joseph, bears three words - 'He's gone too'. [VISITOR's LONDON, 1973].
