Coal Tax Post
Coal Tax Post
This is one of around 200 surviving coal tax posts, which can be found around the London area. Erected in 1861 to denote the boundary where a tax was levied on coal that crossed into London. All access routes into London had a coal tax post at the designated boundary from narrow country road to rail and canal (over which the majority of the coal was transported).
