A casual glance at (or even a thorough examination of) OS maps at 1:25 000 and 1:50 000 scales could lead one to assume that the summit of Meall nan Gabhar is at this, 743m location. It now seems accepted that a rise to the south-east is slightly higher at 744m but only the 743m height is recorded on maps. The view beyond the wide hill top seen here is to the Munros; Ben Cruachan, Beinn a’ Chochuill and Beinn Eunaich.
