HY3705 : Peat stooks

taken 15 years ago, near to Hobbister, Mainland, Orkney Islands, Scotland

Peat stooks
Peat stooks
The more traditional way of finishing peats is to arrange them into small 'stooks'.
These are almost ready for the fire, though they will be kept in store for the following year.
These lightweight peats are of low quality but make for very bright fires owing to the dried vegetation fibres.
