The first attempt made in applying for a liquor licence for use at the Castle House was made during 1899 by one said Mr. G. S. Heath, but unfortunately he was refused 'for reasons unknown to myself' and this then resulted in no further applications being requested until 1949, yet again only to be refused. The Second World War saw the Castle House occupied by soldiers then subsequently boarded up on their departure for many years thereafter. It wasn't until 1950 that a licence was eventually granted to a Mr. John Wood who remained the holder until the Castle House was sold on to Cases Brewery during April of 1954. The Castle House still holds its licence and remains open for business today.
