Winding gear on Diglis Bottom Lock, Worcester
Two broad locks lift boats up from the River Severn to the Worcester and Birmingham Canal at Diglis Basin.

The geared mechanism on the bottom gates is for raising paddles to allow water out when emptying the lock. This is done using a right angled metal tool called a windlass.
