The station, between Hampstead and Golders Green on the Edgware Branch of the Northern Line, was officially called North End but was known as "Bull & Bush" - after TQ2686 : The Old Bull and Bush, photographed by Hywel Williams. It is unique in being a closed Underground station that never even opened. Originally planned to be the deepest station on the whole Underground network at 220 feet below ground level, problems with planning due to the proposed surface station being built in a conservation area and the fact that the district wasn't highly populated meant that the station was effectively abandoned before it was even built.
