Standing stones at Gleniffer Braes
Standing stones at Gleniffer Braes
These are the standing stones that are indicated on the 1:25000 OS map; at the time of writing, they are not included on the 1:50000 map.

The stone on the left is located to the NNW of the other. Both appear to be made of local material (some exposed rock outcrops in the same general area looked similar); the most noticeable contrast is in their respective shapes: one is rounded, while the other is angular and rather tooth-like.

The stones are located about 60 metres from NS4560 : Gleniffer Road. Between them is a smaller concrete object, identical to the one shown in NS4660 : Gleniffer Braes Country Park; the standing stones are also located within the boundaries of the country park.

For views from different angles, see NS4560 : Standing stones at Gleniffer Braes and NS4560 : Standing stones at Gleniffer Braes.

Behind the standing stones, the remains of a wall cross from left to right. Another can be seen leading from the left-hand edge of the image towards the clump of trees that is located just right of centre. Both of these walls were outlying parts of a field system associated with the now-vanished farmstead of Stanelymoor: see NS4560 : The remains of Stanelymoor for more information, and for other parts of that field system.

Compare also NS4560 : Remains of old enclosures; note that the mound shown at that link can also be seen in the present photograph, where it appears in front of the central clump of trees.
Gleniffer Braes Standing Stones

These two stones stand in Gleniffer Braes Country Park, close to Gleniffer Road. See LinkExternal link (at Canmore) for a description.

Stanelymoor field system

Although the farmstead of Stanelymoor has been cleared away, the site of its farm buildings, beside a footpath in Gleniffer Braes Country Park, can still be picked out. A field system associated with the farmstead is still visible.
