The Great Eastern, Trafalgar Street
Head north along Pelham Square then east down Trafalgar Street. Unlike the top end this part of the street was developed from 1810 onwards and marks the current northern extremity of the North Laine area. The Great Eastern was often known for the books found on the shelves inside the pub with an unwritten rule that if you found one you liked you could take as long as you replaced it with another. Another pub opposite, The George, has a reputation for producing vegetarian pub grub.
