Toposcope in Robertson Park
For other images of the viewpoint, including the toposcope, see NS4560 : Viewpoint in Robertson Park and NS4560 : Viewpoint in Robertson Park.
As well as indicating directions and distances to various places of interest, the plaque on top bears the following text:
"This spot is 600 feet above sea-level and is in
Lat 55° 49' N & Lon 4° 28' W
–
The figures represent
the distance in miles
from here as the crow flies."
Each side of the plinth displays, at the top, the direction that it faces. The northern side (which is on the left in the present photograph) bears the following inscription:
"The gift of John Robertson of Roneil / 1911"
This John Robertson (hence "Robertson Park") was the son of the James Robertson who founded Robertson's (a well-known jam and marmalade business). Roneil (NS47556257), which has since been modified (and renamed Sanctuary House), was built for him by the architect T.G.Abercrombie.

Viewpoint in Robertson Park
From this location, in Gleniffer Braes Country Park, there are fine views in most directions (a slope rises behind it to the south). The toposcope that is located here was the gift of John Robertson.
