Kings mill and millstream, Stamford
Kings mill and millstream, Stamford
Dating back perhaps to the Domesday book the Kings Mill is now half luxury house, half local authority day centre. The stream in the foreground is the mill stream, diverted from the Welland at a Weir near the upstream A1 crossing. The millstream itself passes through the millrace at the left hand side of the building, and a second overflow weir brings the surplus water round from the left and joins with the millrace in front of the building.

The natural path of the Welland is on the other side of 'the meadows' behind the photographer's position.
